FAQ

How much do you charge and how do I pay?

How much do you charge and how do I pay?

I charge £500 for a diagnostic assessment if it takes place at or within 3 miles of my home. I charge £550 if I travel further afield. This includes the assessment, the written report and a follow up half hour phone call if required. Any further meetings or phone calls are charged at a half hourly rate of £20.

I am happy to take cash or a bank transfer. I take payment on the day of the assessment.

On average an assessment takes between 2 -3 hours. You will receive your report within 4 weeks of the assessment.

Can I stay with my child during the assessment?

Assessments usually take place at my home. If requested they can take place at school, or at your home. However, they do usually take place at my home which works well as it is quiet and calm, with no interruptions. In my experience schools are happy to authorise a half day absence for the assessment.

Can I stay with my child during the assessment?

I am very happy for you to come in and settle your child before I begin, but I ask that you do not stay for the assessment. I find working on a 1:1 basis puts the child at ease and gets the best out of them. There are several cafes and restaurants less than a 5 minute drive away and I am happy to text during the assessment to let you know your child is happy. I do, of course, hold an up to date enhanced DBS certificate.

If you feel your child would really rather you stay then please do discuss this with me as we can arrange this if necessary, but you would not be sitting with us for the assessment.

'The earlier a child with dyslexia is diagnosed, the more effective educational interventions are likely to be.' (NHS guidelines, 2017)

As soon as you have concerns about your child's progress I would recommend getting them assessed. Early intervention is key, therefore I assess children from age 7/8; I would gauge whether I felt an assessment at 7 would be useful, dependent on the individual circumstances.

However, dyslexic tendencies may be seen long before then so please do keep an eye on your child's development and feel free to contact me for any advice, even for younger children.

Equally, there is no upper age limit to be assessed for dyslexia. Adults may desire an assessment for university, the work place or simply to find out if the difficulties they've always experienced could be due to dyslexia.

I'll do my best to accommodate your needs so do let me know if there is any urgency required.
